Greetings Brothers and Sisters,
Our state’s budget challenges persist, and the opening tone of the legislature does not suggest a likely solution, and certainly not an easy solution. State Employment is very much in the “crosshairs” of every remedy, every solution under discussion. It is clear that additional staff reductions – lay-offs, abolishment of positions, reductions in force – are on the horizon.
Our most current information regarding layoffs, talking points for currently proposed budget language, and other information is available on the APEA website. http://apea-aft.org/sucea-privatizationlayoff-faqs/ The situation is fluid, and you should anticipate there will be changes in some situations and some answers.
Your officers, in CEA, and staff, are currently working to collect information, provide additional messaging, and connect both members and constituents to potential budget impacts and considerations. As more information becomes available, it will be posted to the site.
In the meantime, you may wish to communicate with your own legislative representatives or with the governor. That is your right, and it is a right you should seriously consider exercising in these trying and challenging times – you and your employment are very much in the middle of our state’s turmoil. Please remember, if you do, to be civil, even as you may be persistent. The situation is very difficult, and there are no easy answers.
Please remember to not use state time or resources in conducting political activities. Your Departments should have provided legislative guidelines on conduct and contact with legislators. If you have questions – you may direct them to CEA officers or APEA staff.
Your CEA Executive Board
